Social Policy, Social Work, Sociology and Economic Sociology form the Department of Social Research. Areas of expertise profiling the departments teaching and research include well-being issues, cultural interaction, social inequality and comparative research.  In sociology the scope is on social inequalities and changes of communities and society. The specific topics of study and teaching are in particular social classes, education and income differentials and their inheritance, population, families and immigration, marginalisation, housing, health, gender differences, power, political activity and social movements.
